Previous “Focused Passion” Exhibitions (2004 – 2011)

“Focused Passion – the Tampa Bay Lightning’s Quest for the 2004 Stanley Cup Championship.”

The benefit exhibition is a collection of 26 beautifully framed photographs by Scott Audette that were first exhibited at the Tampa Museum of Art Main Gallery in September 2004. These powerful off-ice photographs had never been seen before and represent the emotions and true determination of the Lightning during the Stanley Cup Finals vs. the Calgary Flames.

Audette was granted unprecedented access to the team during the Finals in order to capture the behind-the-scenes moments that led to the Lightning’s rise to the top of the hockey world. From team meetings and pre-game preparation to stitches by team doctors during intermissions – Audette was there to capture it all both in Tampa and Calgary.

Testimonials

“Art snobs be damned!”

“Focused Passion: The Tampa Bay Lightning’s Quest for the 2004 Stanley Cup Championship”, a 26-photo series by Lightning team photographer Scott Audette, will be on display at the Tampa Museum of Art. The exhibition starts today and runs through September 21st.

It’s a good enough reason for me to hit the museum. I’ll bring along some hockey buddies, a couple of coolers, have a big ol’ time! (Actually, I’m no stranger to the Tampa Museum; I could try to bring a friend or two to this, but I’m not sure it’d be worth the cajoling.)”

Focused Passion, downtown Tampa

Mandi and I attended a fundraiser at the Tampa Museum of Art last night presented by the Tampa Bay Lightning. The museum featured an exhibit of twenty-six photos from behind-the-scenes of this past seasons’ Stanley Cup Playoffs as captured by team photographer, Scott Audette.

It was an intimate look at the players and team personnel as they made their trek to a franchise first Stanley Cup victory. All of the framed prints were auctioned off with proceeds benefitting the Lightning Foundation. The event was attended by Lightning brass, Tampa elite, season ticket holders and a few Lightning players including Dave Andreychuk (in photo above). Oh yeah, a bright, shiny character named Stanley was also in attendance.

“He Shoots! He Scores! With Photos Off the Ice”

Published: 8/31/2004

“Focused Passion: The Tampa Bay Lightning’s Quest for the 2004 Stanley Cup Championship”
is comprised of 26 pictures taken by Lighting team photographer Scott Audette.

The show, which features photos of the players at various moments off the ice
during the playoff series, opens Wednesday and runs through Sept. 21.

“Most teams wouldn’t allow this to be shown,” said Audette.
… They were the walking dead,” Audette said.

Some are almost painful to look at, like a photo of Andre Roy lying on a
training table with a round yellow bruise and a deep gash in his cheek.

“Anybody can see the action on the ice . . . I wanted to do a show about what
happens in the locker room,” said Audette.”Everyone has this idea that the room is just
raucous. It’s not. You could hear a pin drop. It’s real quiet, real concentrated, real focused.”

Audette, 34, a freelance photographer, has been the Lighting’s team photographer for
four full seasons. This show is his brainchild, an idea that came to him while combing through
the hundreds of photographs he took during the Stanley Cup series.
